Rita Meyer, State Auditor Wyoming, will be Roni Bell's guest on Good Neighbor News, Sunday June 29th. Rita was raised near the small ranching community of Johnstown, Nebraska, and moved to Centennial, Wyoming in 1977. She is a graduate of the University of Wyoming with undergraduate degrees in education and finance. She also holds an MBA in International Business and a Master’s in National Resource Strategy. Rita has served her state and the nation for over 23 years as an enlisted airman and officer in the Wyoming Air National Guard. She attained the rank of full Colonel in July 2004. Rita retired from the Guard on November 3, 2007. Rita is a combat veteran. She has served in both Iraq and Afghanistan. She holds the military's expert marksmanship medal and has been awarded the combat readiness medal on two separate occasions. Rita has served on the University of Wyoming Board of Trustees, as an Admissions Liaison Officer to the United State Air Force Academy, and as a member of several prominent national math and science commissions. In 2006, Rita was elected to the post of State Auditor. She is the second woman to hold this office since 1886. Rita is married to Dr. Charles Meyer, a retired dentist and native of Rawlins. They have one son, Charlie, a Naval Intelligence Officer currently assigned to the Pentagon, and a daughter-in-law, Emily, an international trade attorney. |
