NOVEMBER-DECEMBER 2007 GOOD NEIGHBOR - DR. JOHN MAULSBY

The Good Neighbor Committee is proud to honor Dr. John Maulsby as our November Good Neighbor.

At the age of 56, Dr. Maulsby was named state veterinarian for the Colorado Department of Agriculture in August of 2006. Prior to John's appointment, he'd already established a long respected relationship with the CDA, as a dedicated employee for 18 years.

Putting consumers and producers of food first, John works closely with other state veterinarians, to find and be vigilant in  controlling animal disease and bio terrorism in the United States.

He also works with animal welfare groups to investigate and stop animal cruelty.
Any person who’s ever worked with John, will quickly tell you that he never lets politics or religion interfere with sound scientific applications.  In today’s highly charged political climate, it’s reassuring to know that there’s at least one person more focused on the safety of your food supply than the bent of your politics.
John helped organize and participated in the helicopter hay drops in southeastern Colorado, during the devastating blizzards of 2006/7.

Dr. Maulsby gave generously of his time, to speak and educate the attendees at the first Good Neighbor Forum in February 2007.

A native Coloradan, John makes his home in Wellington where he tends to his own bunch of critters.

Congratulations Dr. John Maulsby!  We in the ag and consumer communities are grateful you...are the one “on the watch!”

Good Neighbor Committee

I just want to echo the positive comments with respect to Dr. Maulsby.  If the world, notably the agriculture world- had more leaders like Dr. Maulsby- we'd be in a much better situation! Dr. Maulsby has done an outstanding job addressing the animal health issues in Colorado.  As a participant of the 2006 United States Animal Health Association Board of Directors meeting, I had the chance to see Dr. Maulsby take his expertise and common sense approach to issues to the national level.  I was very impressed.  Hats off to Good Neighbor for recognizing Dr. Maulsby, and a loud standing ovation for Dr. Maulsby, a gentleman who is truly making a difference in both animal agriculture, and the world around him. - Jess Peterson - Hathaway, MT/Washington D.C.

It's not too often that you get to know a man before you actually meet him, but that was the situation for me with Dr. John.  I was first directed his way by mutual friends when I needed help with naturally managing my buffalo herd health while being down wind from a poorly managed cattle feedlot operation. Then I was pleasantly surprised to find that he ascribed to the same patriotic ideals as I, despite the political pressure he must surely experience in being a state employee. My heart was warmed when I found that he didn't wear his Christian faith on his shirt sleeve and unashamedly proclaims his faith in his Lord.  When I finally got to meet him personally I discovered him to be a kind, sincere, unassuming and humble man.  Wow, what a combination!

Congratulations Dr. John -- you surely deserve this recognition.  I am proud to call you my Good Neighbor!  -
Gene Kammerzell

I have the opportunity to work with John on many occasions and he is extremely knowledgeable and professional and a joy to work with. As government employees go he is the best. - Chief Mark Trostel

Dr. John Maulsby is one of the finest men I’ve ever met, as he is a true gentleman and a true American. He places himself last and his creator first. It is with honor that I know the man and hold the highest regards for him. He is most deserving of being the November Good Neighbor. - Kimmi Lewis
